Edward Pearson joins Motopark in European switch

Edward Pearson will step up from the GB3 Championship powered by the BRDC after electing to revise his racing programme for the remainder of the 2024 season.

With an eye on the next stage of his career, the teenager has taken the difficult decision to bring his GB3 programme to an early end and will instead join the Euroformula Open Championship with the Motopark team.

As he bids to move up the single-seater ladder, the move up to Euroformula Open will provide Edward with the opportunity to gain valuable experience of a number of new circuits on the continent, with the series having events at the Red Bull Ring, Catalunya and Monza still to run this season.

Euroformula Open is regarded as one of the natural stepping stones for drivers looking to compete in the FIA Formula 3 Championship, with the last two champions - Oliver Goethe and Noel León - both stepping up to the F1 support series on the back of their title-winning campaigns.

Cian Shield, Charlie Wurz, Joshua Dufek and Tim Tramnitz also appeared in the series last season and are now part of the F3 field.

German outfit Motopark has a long heritage in successfully coaching drivers on their way into a professional career in motorsport. Out of the 2023 Formula 1 grid Max Verstappen, Valterri Botas, Kevin Magnussen, Yukis Tsunoda, Guanyu Zhou, Logan Sargent and Liam Lawson are drivers in which Motopark played a significant role during their career.

“I’m delighted to confirm my deal to join forces with Motopark for the remainder of the season,” Edward said. “This move provides me with the opportunity to sample new and prestigious circuits that are part of the Formula 1 schedule free from the pressures of a championship programme, and will give me valuable experience that can only be of benefit moving forwards in my career.

“Whilst I am pleased to be teaming up with Motopark and embarking on a fresh challenge, I would also like to thank everyone at Fortec Motorsport for their support over the past 18 months whilst I have been competing in GB3.

“The podium finishes at Oulton Park and Donington Park last season were the obvious highlights and whilst we didn’t quite manage to match those heights this year, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time with the team and wish them all the best for the remainder of the season.”
