Edward Pearson will make a full-time move into the Euroformula Open series for 2025 after securing a deal to join forces with the Nielsen Racing squad.
Edward joined the Euroformula grid last season after electing to bring an early end to his second year in the GB3 Championship programme, with the youngster instead taking the decision to gain additional experience of European circuits with an eye on the future.
A two-round stint with Motopark Racing would prove to be hugely successful for Edward, providing the opportunity to compete at both the Red Bull Ring and Catalunya for the first time, scoring a best result of second and picking up three podium finishes in six starts.
Edward will now join the grid for the 2025 season at the start of what will be a new era for the series with the introduction of a new car and engine combination, with teams running the Dallara 324 that was introduced into the Japanese Super Formula Lights series last year.
Power will come from a new 1.6 litre turbocharged engine developed by Japanese specialists TOM’s, widely regarded as one of the leading engine builders in global motorsport.
The move to Nielsen Racing will also see Edward join forces with a team competing in the Euroformula Open grid for the first time.
The Corby-based outfit is best known for its exploits in sportscar racing over the past decade, enjoying title glory in both the Asian Le Mans Series and the Michelin Le Mans Cup to earn a spot on the grid at the prestigious Le Mans 24 Hours, where it scored a podium finish in LMP2 Pro-Am in 2022.
Edward’s 2025 programme will get underway in late April with the opening round of the campaign at the Portimao circuit in Portugal, with a total of 24 races across eight rounds at venues that include no fewer than five current F1 venues; Spa, Hungaroring, Red Bull Ring, Catalunya and Monza.
Edward Pearson said: “I can’t wait to join forces with Nielsen Racing this season for my first full year in EuroFormula Open after the successful outings in the series last year. Going into a new era for the series, it is exciting to have the opportunity to work alongside such a well-respected team, and I can’t wait to get started.
“This is a deal that really would not be possible without the support of all my partners, and there is no doubt that I go into 2025 looking to try and fight for the top step of the podium from the very start.”
Sven Thompson, Team Principal said "We’re delighted to expand into single-seaters with Euroformula Open. Our goal is to establish ourselves quickly and build on our success in endurance racing. We’re committed to providing young drivers such as Edward with a strong development platform, and with our experience in prototypes, we’re confident we can build a competitive team and make an impact in the championship."
